In order to celebrate the compassion towards animals Paul McCartney wants Indian Prime Minister to introduce the meat-free day.

In the letter he wrote that a Vegetarian Day “would be a celebration of life”.

Since the mid-1970s,he and his then-wife Linda both gave up meat and has been a vegetarian activist.

In 2003 it was estimated by the UN food agency that 42 per cent of India’s 1.2 billion population were vegetarian.

Singer Sir Paul McCartney was left embarrassed after he slipped and fell on the stage during a show in Brazil last week.

The Beatles star was performing some of his popular songs in the presence of 67,000 fans at the Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo. After wrapping up his performance McCartney headed for the wings when he tripped and fell over cables at the side of the stage, reports contactmusic.com.

The Beatles star was on his way to his offices in central London when the rude cyclist shouted at a woman then nearly knocked over the ‘Let It Be’ singer and other pedestrians.

Paul, 68, confronted the bike rider and mocked him by performing an impromptu dance and shouting: “Ooh I’m so scary, I’m so scary.”

Eyewitness, Mark Thorburn, 37, told The Sun newspaper: “The cyclist was telling everyone to f**k off out of his way.

“Paul danced like an elf and put on a squeaky voice to ridicule him. It was the funniest and most surreal thing I’ve seen.”

Singer Sir Paul McCartney has apparently revealed that he was not the expected singer of the James Bond theme ‘Live And Let Die’ but Dame Shirley Bassey.

He said that after he’d recorded the much-loved theme, producer Harry Saltzman expected Dame Shirley Bassey or someone else to sing it.

Sir Paul told MOJO magazine that he’d always wanted to write a Bond theme.

According to Macca, when Saltzman heard the track, he asked producer George Martin-who he planned on having sing the “finished” version-for his opinion.

“He said, ‘That’s a great demo but who are you thinking of getting to sing it?’ He was thinking of Shirley Bassey,” said Paul.

According to reports, the actress — who’s married to Tom Cruise — introduced her daughter Suri to the Beatles legend when she got a one-on-one with Paul backstage at his recent gig in Toronto, Canada.

“Katie said she was a huge fan and Tom was really disappointed at missing out,” a source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper.

“She is a vegan and backs a lot of the same campaigns as Sir Paul. Little Suri didn’t really understand who he was though.”

Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) opened in 1996 after a long campaign by the former Beatle.

On Friday, the musical legend made awards to new LIPA companions – artist and fundraiser Midge Ure, actor Jonathan Price, dance promoter Heather Knight, music producer Alan Moulder and theatre designer Christopher Oram.

Community arts champion Dave Pammenter and choreographer LaVelle Smith Junior, who also received Companionships, were not present at the ceremony but provided video citations.

LIPA awards Companionships for two reasons: outstanding achievement and practical contribution to students’ learning.

This year, Mark Summers, a leading casting and creative director, became an Honoured Friend.

Founding principal and CEO Mark Featherstone-Witty said: “When Paul and I created LIPA, we knew there was no substitute for learning from the best. Aside from our staff, we wanted to attract outstanding practitioners to share their knowledge for all the disciplines we teach. Since we are in the provinces, it’s a push for them, but these people have done it and we are all grateful.”

This year nearly 300 students representing 14 countries, including Mozambique and Argentina, graduated from diploma, degree and postgraduate courses in performing art disciplines and related subjects such as management and design.

LIPA is in Sir Paul’s old school, the Liverpool Institute for Boys, which underwent a multi-million-pound renovation to transform it.

Sir Paul McCartney was joined on stage by Kevin Spacey to perform a duet at a star-packed bash.

The pair performed Beatles classic Hey Jude in front of guests including Dame Judi Dench – to whom the track was dedicated – and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

The event, at Battersea power station, was to raise cash for the Old Vic theatre in London and marked its 192nd birthday.

Other familiar faces in the crowd included James Corden, Stephen Fry, Bryan Adams and Sir Peter Blake.

The select event marked a huge contrast to his vast show in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday in front of an audience of more than 50,000.

He played a set of mainly Beatles songs including Long And Winding Road, And I Love Her and Got To Get You Into My Life, finishing with an encore of Get Back.

American Beauty star Kevin, the Old Vic’s artistic director, persuaded Sir Paul to take part in the show, which also benefited the former Beatle’s Meat Free Monday campaign.

The musician said afterwards: “It was a great pleasure to come and rock out for the Old Vicars. Such a great event for a good cause.

“I particularly like the outreach programmes they have for the youth around the area that encourage young kids.

“When Kevin strong-armed me into doing it, as he does, we were only too pleased to show up and step up to the plate. We had a great evening, we rocked out and the crowd did too. We couldn’t have asked for more.”
